Police Information:

1. The role of the police is to reduce the road toll and maintain the free flow of traffic

2. They also enforce random breath testing, patrols on roads, attend serious accidents, give talks on road safety, organize temporary closure of streets for fun runs etc.

3. Major factors in road accidents are:

  • Human error
  • Speeding
  • Drink Driving
  • Driver fatigue
  • Inexperience
  • Road environment
  • Poor Roads
  • Vehicle problems
  • Brake/steering/tyre failure

The effects of alcohol are:

  • Depresses brain functions
  • Judgment deteriorates
  • Risk of crashing increases by 4% per .08ml

Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) is a measure of the amount of alcohol in the blood. BAC depends on how much you drink over a period of time – some people get higher readings that others because:

  • People are in poor health
  • People with an empty stomach
  • People with a small build or overweight
The amount of alcohol taken in the time over which it is consumed are the most important factors determining BAC

Legal Information:

1. If you drink and drive you are a bloody idiot.
2. If you receive three major driving offences in five years you will have to receive a jail sentence.
3. Work licence options:

A. Apply when you have an open QLD license and no previous drink driving history in the last five years
B. Employee must swear an affidavit that without a license you will have no job
C. The need for a work licence will be determined by the following;

  • Age
  • Health
  • Remoteness of residence
  • History of community service or volunteer work
  • Employment history
  • Marital status and children
  • Economic considerations
4. The sentence for disqualified driving can be jail
5. Drink driving can cause death – your own family or friends
6. Killing someone while drink driving could result in a jail sentence that will ruin you life or someone elses
